10 Halloween Makeup Essentials

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to pull out those creepy door signs, fog machines, spider web decorations and skeleton props. But those good ole Halloween favs aren’t all that you’ll be needing. Top beauty brands are launching some really cool sets that will get you in the Halloween spirit and make you face your fears. No tricks or treats, just magical makeup, fabulous palettes, and flashy glimmers.

There are far too many nifty Halloween finds to list. Get as creative as you want and paint a fantasy of fright with everything from Halloween flavored lip balms, witches brew charcoal face masks, lipstick wands, and eyeshadow palettes named after characters from the most popular scary movies. Prime members are joining in on the fun, grabbing theatrical makeup kits, rhinestones, face and body stencils, and stage makeup in preparation for fanciful costumes. Halloween is so much more fun with a new makeup collection! From Colourpop to Hot Topic, NYX, and Elf cosmetics, there’s a variety of new Halloween makeup releases that will make the festivities tons of fun!

Here are some of the best Halloween makeup ideas for 2022:

MAC Cosmetics

MAC never fails with their deep, rich pigments and glamorous glimmers. I must admit that I am forever a MAC fan, and I’m glad that I can still find my favorite items just in time for twerk or treat. Vogue says the MAC Pro Palette Painstick x 12, MAC Chromecake, and MAC Mini Mac Pigment are must haves for your shalloween adventures, and I couldn’t agree more!

NYX Professional Makeup

NYX is definitely one of my go to makeup lines. I’ve been converted on a few items that I dare to mention, but I still crave the old but goodies. They’ve got some really spooktacular drops for the season. They’ve officially partnered with Cirque Du Soleil just in time for Halloween and they’ve also got other essentials like the SFX Face & Body Paint Palette, face stamps, face & body glitter, and loose pigments. ColourPop Cosmetics

I’m really interested in trying more from this line. I simply adore their themed sets and authenticity. They got my attention with the Hocus Pocus 2 Collection. I’m spellbound on everything about this set.

Hot Topic

Hot Topic really caught me with a few new Halloween essentials for 2022, and best of all they’re themed after some of the greatest horror flicks ever! I mean who doesn’t love Beetlejuice? I so love the Friday the 13th Jason Mask Eyeshadow Palette and the Supernatural Monster Guide Eyeshadow Palette. Both feature a wide variety of light and dark colors, a few nice nudes, dark shades for smoky eye, and a nice white shade to match any costume of choice. Open the Beetlejuice Handbook for the Recently Deceases Palette to find a myriad of hues like orange, purple, teal, and red. Calling all superheroes, scarecrows, mermaids, aliens, angels, and avatars! This is some good glam that you don’t want to miss.  I’m super excited about playing in my makeup again! These beauty brands are great picks for anyone looking to wow the crowds at any fright night, costume party, Halloweekend bash, or phantom gala near you.

Lovin’ the Skin You’re In – Fall Skincare Tips

As the season changes and we swap out those easy-going spaghetti strap shirts and floral summer dresses for pastel sweaters and fierce booties, there are a few other things that we might forget to revamp. When the weather changes, our skin changes too. The face wash, moisturizers, creams, and primers that we use through the summer may work a little bit differently when the temperatures cool. While you’re clearing out your stylist closet it’s also the perfect time to take a look at your skin care products and think about how you can take good care of your epidermis this fall.

The Beauty of Change

Top magazines like Allure, Vogue, and Bustle agree on this – Protect Your skin. Lisa Niven Phillips of Vogue says, “For anyone who has used a few too many exfoliating acids, or overdone it with the retinol treatments, the wealth of new barrier-focused skincare products will help to restore, rebalance and reinforce compromised skin.” New product lines are formulated with ingredients to help protect your skin’s barrier. Whether you’re a skinimalist or a certified makeup artist, your routine usually starts with a quality cleanser, toner, and hydrator that help to block harmful UV rays and air pollution. The cooling breeze is nice, but it may make your skin feel a bit different. It may be a good idea to switch up your fall skincare routine for extra protection. Consider using a hydrating cleanser instead of a foaming cleanser if you skin is less oily after the summer. Try a moisturizing cream to add some extra moisturizer as a barrier to the elements. Your skin will look and feel just as good as pumpkin spice.

Back to the Bar

I remember using cleansing bars back in the day, so I was really surprised and excited to see these as a big trend for skincare this fall. I am in love with lush, fragrant, and soothing body bar soaps, so I would definitely add these to my fall skincare routine. Top brands Megababe, Pharrell Humanrace, Peach Not Plastic, and Payot Paris have the secret elixir for radiant skin in a bar. Fresh autumnal ingredients like organic rosemary, shea butter, Vitamin C, and jojoba seed oil, make skin care a little less spooky. Celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas says, “The trend of sustainability and mindful packaging will bring cleansing bars into the forefront as the modern version of the traditional bar serves some great ingredients without the waste.”

Homebody Habits

I can personally attest to the goodness of at home skincare treatments. A friend of mine told me about the (beauty cleansing brush – name) many years ago and now it’s my go to for glam. I’m super excited about new treatments. According to Truly Beauty, LED light masks, microneedling, radiofrequency devices, beauty rollers, and cleansing brushes are the keys to lovely fall skin. With these fall skincare essentials, the bonfire won’t be the only thing looking hot.

The Prescription for Healthy Skin

Now I can’t say that I’ve tried any professional skincare treatments outside of hair removal (that I do highly recommend), but it’s definitely up for consideration. Seeking the help of an expert is always the best way to go. In Vogue magazine Dr. Anjali Mahto says, “With the plethora of information available online, skincare routines have become increasingly confusing, and it can be hard to know which active ingredients may benefit your skin.”

When in doubt, remember beauty is being comfortable in your own skin. Just a few small skin-vestments and you’ll be lit like fall scented candles.

Fall Beauty Trends 2022

The fall has finally arrived and I find myself rushing to catch those last long, sunlit days before the time change. This year, I feel slightly prepared. It is personally my favorite time of the year – just before the holiday rush and New Year’s spark – when I’m wishing for a pumpkin latte and a cozy sweater. The beauty of nature in this season is so awe-inspiring, as is the assortment of colorful fall beauty trends.

Here are a few things I’m ‘falling’ for:

Bold Lips

A lot of the articles and reviews I’ve been reading have been talking about lips. A bright color can easily transform a simple outfit into a ‘look’. Turn heads in any room with a bold matte like Red Carpet Red from Charlotte Tillbury. Grab the Matte Revolution Lip Kit for $52, but don’t kiss and tell.

Smudged Liner

Kiss perfection goodbye. Add a little smudge to those almond eyes and you’re the bae. If you like to be daring with your dazzle, this is the perfect trend for you. Everybody likes wings, but creative eyeliner is really fun. Allure says to use a creamy pencil to create a soft shadow below your lower lash to create this perfectly flawed edgy look. Just a few soft strokes and you’re runway ready!

Graphic Liner

Celebrities are raving about California makeup artist David Valesquez. You can find tons of inspiring shots on his Instagram featuring unique color liners from bright purples and creamy bronze to glittery golds and baby blues. There’s more than one way to be fabulous and with graphic liner, the world is yours.

The Secret to Sunscreen Revealed

Summer travel is so much fun, but you can’t get so caught up in the excitement that you forget the practical stuff. As a serious checklist writer, I completely believe in creating lists that help you figure out the important stuff that you’ll need for trips to the beach, cookouts, and casual days out and about in the sun. It is so nice to get some sunshine, but the dangers of sun are real deal. While preparing for vacations and weekend trips to the lake house, I hope you are thinking about protecting your skin with sunscreen lotion. A good friend of mine always sends me a reminder – so I’m paying it forward.

SP – What?

It may be tempting to just grab a hat and run errands in the summer, but taking a few extra moments to dab on some sunscreen has a few proven benefits that you might think are worth your time.  Broad spectrum sunscreen can prevent sunburn, reduce risk for skin cancer, and slow down aging. The FDA recommends SPF 15 or higher and has strict requirements about what claims companies can make to consumers. Check the labels, reapply every few hours, and block skin damage with top sunscreen brands.

Do I Have to Do Math?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. Apparently, the number tells you how long it will take UVB rays to burn your skin. Britannica defines SPF as, “a relative measurement for the amount of time the sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet (UV) rays.” The longer you plan to be in the sun, the higher SPF you’ll need. And although they are waterproof, experts recommend reapplying after swimming or sweating. Proper application will improve efficiency, so be sure to ask for some assistance (wink).

I Just Can’t Decide

Okay, so now that we understand the basics – without having to know all about the dermis, epidermis, scary skin cancer risk factors, and photons – which SPF is the most popular right now? What are the top sunscreen brands? According to Amazon, here are a few highly recommended brands.

Neutrogena pulled the highest number of ratings and reviews. The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 Dry-Touch Water Resistant Sunscreen Lotion has 4/5 stars and over 38,000 reviews.

EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 Face Sunscreen is a best seller. If you have the budget, it may be worth the splurge. It costs $39.00 but has over 31,000 positive reviews.

CeraVe’s 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 only has 11,000 + reviews, but I’ve always thought this was a good product.

There are so many options. My first choice was Neutrogena Sport Face Oil Free, but I ended up buying the Aveeno face sunscreen and Coppertone body sunscreen.
