The Beauty of Blended Culture

The iconic makeup sponge Beautyblender was founded by former makeup artist Rea Ann Silva. The brand launched in 2003 and was a known game changer. Today’s top sellers are The Original Beautyblender makeup sponge, Rosie Posie Blender Essentials Set, and the Rocket to Flawless blend & cleanse set. The products are cruelty free and vegan.

From Tunes to Tones

When Singer Becky G launched Treslúce in 2021 her mission was to “highlight communities and always give back in an intentional way, supporting Latinx artists and artisans across the U.S. and Latin America.” To celebrate Treslúce’s one year anniversary you can try out some of the brands best shadows, brushes, lashes, and liners in the Becky Made Me Do It collection. And you’ll get a Treslúce Flor de Mexico Pocket Mirror.

The Secret to Sunscreen Revealed

Summer travel is so much fun, but you can’t get so caught up in the excitement that you forget the practical stuff. As a serious checklist writer, I completely believe in creating lists that help you figure out the important stuff that you’ll need for trips to the beach, cookouts, and casual days out and about in the sun. It is so nice to get some sunshine, but the dangers of sun are real deal. While preparing for vacations and weekend trips to the lake house, I hope you are thinking about protecting your skin with sunscreen lotion. A good friend of mine always sends me a reminder – so I’m paying it forward.

SP – What?

It may be tempting to just grab a hat and run errands in the summer, but taking a few extra moments to dab on some sunscreen has a few proven benefits that you might think are worth your time.  Broad spectrum sunscreen can prevent sunburn, reduce risk for skin cancer, and slow down aging. The FDA recommends SPF 15 or higher and has strict requirements about what claims companies can make to consumers. Check the labels, reapply every few hours, and block skin damage with top sunscreen brands.

Do I Have to Do Math?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. Apparently, the number tells you how long it will take UVB rays to burn your skin. Britannica defines SPF as, “a relative measurement for the amount of time the sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet (UV) rays.” The longer you plan to be in the sun, the higher SPF you’ll need. And although they are waterproof, experts recommend reapplying after swimming or sweating. Proper application will improve efficiency, so be sure to ask for some assistance (wink).

I Just Can’t Decide

Okay, so now that we understand the basics – without having to know all about the dermis, epidermis, scary skin cancer risk factors, and photons – which SPF is the most popular right now? What are the top sunscreen brands? According to Amazon, here are a few highly recommended brands.

Neutrogena pulled the highest number of ratings and reviews. The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 Dry-Touch Water Resistant Sunscreen Lotion has 4/5 stars and over 38,000 reviews.

EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 Face Sunscreen is a best seller. If you have the budget, it may be worth the splurge. It costs $39.00 but has over 31,000 positive reviews.

CeraVe’s 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 only has 11,000 + reviews, but I’ve always thought this was a good product.

There are so many options. My first choice was Neutrogena Sport Face Oil Free, but I ended up buying the Aveeno face sunscreen and Coppertone body sunscreen.

New Makeup from ColourPop

Avatar: The Last Airbender

If ColourPop’s new Avatar: The Last Airbender collection is anything like the movie or animation series, you’ll be inspired to give it try.

Allure says, “The brand has launched countless collections full of makeup products based on the mythical worlds and characters in movies and shows such as Nightmare Before Christmas, Powerpuff Girls, and even Lizzie McGuire…” The Last Airbender Full Collection Makeup set transports you into the World of Avatar with themed palettes, vibrant shades, and dazzling pigments that remind you of the fascinating fantasy series.

Fans of the Animated Nickelodeon show can experience the power of Water, Earth, Air, and Fire with each makeup application. The set includes a masking kit, gel eyeliners, lip stains, highlighters, an eyeshadow palette, and lip stains.

According to PopSugar, “The color range represents the four nations, reds for fire, blues for water, golds and shimmers for air, and browns and neutrals for earth.” The gel eyeliners represent characters Aang, Zuko, Toph, and Katara with colors like pink, red, bronze, and blue. The mask contains great ingredients like hyaluronic acid, marine algae, aloe, and vitamin E for hydration and pore reduction. The highlighter comes in a golden, buttery formula with colors like Got Glow and Moon Peach.

The colour sticks are super vibrant and offered in a wide variety of appealing colors. You can also enhance your look with the Meow, Kitsch, and Retro hues of blush.

ColourPop Beauty Reviews

I found a few reviews on YouTube by Makeupbytreenz and Makeup.Just.For.Fun that spoke highly of ColourPop’s packaging, which kinda reminds you of corner store candies and bubble gum. They also raved about the minimalist-inspired nudes. I personally like the blush colors and the mirrored palette. The full set is available online for $110.

With names like Juice pop, Seltzer pop, Fizzy pop, Lolli pop, and Sizzle pop, this launch is sure to spark inspiration in the beauty community.
