Summer Skincare Essentials

Have you ever noticed that you skin gets dryer in the winter or tends to produce more oil in the summertime? Do ever feel like the skin care products that you used in the fall don’t work that well in the spring? Are you wondering what products may work well through different seasons? I’ve found a few skin care products that help me to manage changing skin year-round.

Photo by Annie Spratt via Unsplash

Cerave is undoubtedly one of my top summer skincare essentials. My dermatologist recommended this many years ago and I’ve tried several different skin care products in this line. I like the foaming cleanser and the light feel of the moisturizers, but sometimes I feel like I can use a bit more moisture on my face. I’ve also tried their skin care products with Hyaluronic Acid and swear by this stuff because it helps to exfoliate the skin.

Many of the Asian skincare brands are amazing as well. The soaps are very natural and also exfoliate. In some seasons they can be a little harsh and I wouldn’t recommend them if you have really sensitive skin. The funny thing is that many of the old school soaps work well too! I think the skin is okay if it just gets a little attention.

In the past, I used to use Aveeno and I really like this product too. They have a brightener that seems to balance the skin if you’ve recently had a scrub or a peel. The misconception is that the any quick wash is good is enough. If you’ve ever used makeup removal wipes or oil blotters, you can literally see the dirt buildup. Just like the rest of our bodies, the skin needs a little affection. Just a few moments of self-care really will go a long way.

At the end of the day, nothing beats a good portion of water and some beauty rest!

Summer Essentials 2021

There are a few items that I recently added to my list of must have’s this summer and I thought it would be nice to write a blog post about them. I am always amazed at the vast array of new products being offered – especially in the beauty industry. Just when you think you’ve had enough hyaluronic acid and collagen filled skin care products and exfoliating body washes you discover yet another ground-breaking product that seems to get the job done. I have tried out some great new places and products this summer, but these few have made it to the list of summer makeup bag essentials.

Smudge Free Foundation

The options for foundation are endless when it comes to summer essentials amazon. There are always a ton of great new products to try, but I’ve learned that the right drug store foundation can keep me looking fresh and eliminate my fear of the smudge. I was looking for a light foundation that wouldn’t rub off on someone if I gave them a hug and I think I found it. It’s called L’oreal Infallible 24-Hour Fresh Wear with SPF (you need that SPF!). You wouldn’t believe how smooth and seamless this looks for casual grocery store shopping or even trips to the gym.

No More Flaky Cheeks!

I waited forever for the ColourPop blush STIX. When I finally found the right color, of course it was out of stock and so I waited yet again. I had used another brand for creamy stick blush in the past, but really liked the bright summery colors that this line offered when I saw it at Ulta.  Well low and behold, I tried it and added it to summer makeup bag essentials. It’s something about a touch of “under pressure” that seems to give my face a glow.

More Reds!

Red Wine. Did you say wine?! Yes, I was a Merlot lover for such a long time but recently transitioned over into something with a balance of bitterness and tart. I felt like my Merlot and even Shiraz was getting a bit sweet and really began liking something slightly darker. I’ll probably work my way back around to the Merlots and maybe even white wines again someday, but for now I am really into the Cabs.

If you like wine or if you’re curious, please send me an email for an invite to the next One Hope wine tasting on Thursday August 18, at 7PM EST. The wines are top rated Napa Valley bottles, and every purchase goes towards a good cause.

Cheers to a great rest of your summer and to the fluffy fall sweaters and boots that are soon to come!

5 Social Media Tools That Really Work

One thing that I have learned about social media marketing is that it is always changing. Sites like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Snap Chat are always doing something new. Influencers and experts rant and rave about new algorithms, features, and functions and social media marketers ride the wave onto the next thing. It can be challenging to keep up with it all and even more difficult to sift through the tips and trends to find out what works. I learned a lot about social media management in school, but it is always exciting to check out recent trends. I took some time to take a peek at the latest developments in the social media marketing world and discovered some good stuff.

Photo by Firm Bee via Unplash

There are some great new tools for Content and Automation

As far as content is concerned, I found a few resources that make it easy to create content that your audience will relish. Ivory Mix and Pixi Stock impressed me with amazing stock photos with a variety of color schemes and appealing backgrounds. I used to have a hard time finding diverse photos in the past, but Pixi Stock gives you a great selection if you aren’t able to hire a photographer to create your own custom photos.

Regarding content planning I must say that I have used several apps to plan content, but I really liked Tail Wind. The app design is seamless. It allows you to easily measure social media activity. You can automate posts, review hashtag performance, and see what posts people like the most. It also gives you recommendations for scheduling posts. There are a myriad of quality content planning apps to choose from like Planoly, Plann, and Preview, but I would definitely give this one a try.

Words are still everything.

As a former copywriter, I learned a lot about keywords and search engine optimization years ago. It was nice to see that keywords are still very important when it comes to social media marketing and blogging. I took a peak at the Stupid Simple SEO site for a quick refresher. Mike Pearson was the truth and had some really great insights.

You can send amazing emails with Convert Kit.

Email marking can compliment blogging and social media marketing, but sometimes it can be intimidating. Tools like Convert Kit make it easy to create emails to engage your followers. This site shares some really great tips and videos to help you get started. In just a few clicks, you can easily promote your brand with Convert Kit.

Instagram offers even more options to interact with friends.

I must admit I have been a little scared of trying out new Instagram tools. I am not that into doing videos, but everyone has been talking about how much video content performs so well for a long time. A lot of social media influencers gave good reviews on Reels — I might just be inspired to give it a try. It is not technically a new feature, but according to social media expert Christina Galbato, Reels is still a popular way to grow your Instagram audience.

I could spend hours clicking away on the internet checking out new social media marketing trends. One thing is for sure – everybody has their own way of doing things online and their preferred way to do it.

Amazon Prime Day Wish List

There are hundreds of notable holidays and special events throughout the year that inspire shoppers to pull out their credit cards and swipe it up. For many, the holiday season is the best time to get your good ole shopping fix on. Around Easter you can always catch some good sales and deals too. And of course everyone loves Black Friday!

AMAZON PRIME DAY is for the real deal online shoppers. I use Amazon Prime a lot year round but I must admit that I missed the event last year. This year I made up my mind to join in on the excitement of global online shopping.

Here are a few hot items I’m keeping my eye on.

Top Three Sizzling Summer Makeup Trends

If you are thinking about ways to spice up your summer look and try out something new, top makeup artists and cosmetic enthusiasts are seemingly in agreement on a few things. Now is the time for bold black eyeliner, polished eyebrows, and effortless looking foundation. With temperatures rising and restrictions from COVID-19 lifting, your mask-less outings will be all the more glamourous with these stylish makeup trends.

#1 Graphic Eyeliner

Perhaps you have always thought of dark eyeliners as a bit much. Maybe you just couldn’t think of the right occasion to showcase your artistry. If you are feeling more adventurous this year and are in the mood to express your creativity and spice up your makeup life, graphic eyeliner is in this season.

According to Cosmopolitan, dramatic eyeliners that accent they eyes in a variety of ways are a trend this summer. If you are into that you might try eyeliner that shapes the bottom and top of your eyes, extend your almond eye shape more, or even fills the full eye lid.

#2 Brushed Up Eyebrows

As far as eyebrows go, some like a soft arch, some like straight brows, and some like a high arch. This year the brushed-up eyebrow is really popular.  If the quarantine has left you a bit isolated and hairy, the full eye-brow might be a good look for you.

#3 No Makeup Makeup – Dewey Skin

Another steamy summer trend is dewy looking makeup that looks so good that it appears as if you are not even wearing it. InStyle magazine says this look can be achieved by keeping skin hydrated, using a good primer, and selecting a base that closely matches your natural skin color.

For instant lavishness, try one or all of these this season.

Happy Spring 2021

Today marks the first day of the 2021 spring season. Many also recognize this day as the Spring Equinox, the start of the Persian New Year – Nowruz Mubarak, Ostara, and Holy Hai, This means a little extra sunlight, spring cleaning, and a change in the earth’s elliptical orbit. For makeup enthusiasts, this means switching up a few products. Now is the time for that bright fuchsia lipstick, teal eyeshadow, and peach blush.

According to Vogue, fuchsia gets a good look because of its versatility. You can easily go from a light and prissy glam to a bold, dramatic display with the right bright pink. Paris recommends a little glitter and a matte base for a timeless spring palette. I can surely agree. I always tend to go back to my classic pinks or even peach tones to keep a cheery bright glow.

Burts Bees also recently mentioned a few makeup tips for the spring. Their twitter feed lit up with comments on ways to purge of your old makeup at the start of the spring. Their top spring essentials are products like the deep moisture bundle, lip shimmer, very volumizing pomegranate shampoo, lavender and honey hand cream, and satin lipstick. I instantly fell in love with the hydrating facial mist and love everything micellular.

Another line that launched a new collection just in time for the spring is AVON. Several twitter feeds featured images of the 3-in-1 palette with pastel colors like pink, gold, purple, and blue for the eyes and cheeks. I must say that these soft colors are my favorite and I enjoyed the touch of glimmer.

On a more serious note I am deeply saddened by what is going on with this hatred in Atlanta. It would be an injustice to not mention my concern and recognition of the connection that I have had with the Asian community through the years. I pray for healing and justice for all of those affected.

NARS Orgasm Blush Limited Edition

Have you heard about the new line recently released from NARS? Word has it that this top of the line beauty brand introduced a new collection of blushes for all of the beauty obsessed folks out there and the reviews are saying good things. I took some time out to do some research on the NARS Air Matte Blush and I am anxious to tell you all about it.

The NARS Air Matte Blush comes in several illuminating colors called gasp, rush, torch, hushed, darling, scandalous, orgasm, and freedom.   This flossy cheek color collection is described as a metamorphizing blush that seamlessly transitions from mousse form to a velvety glaze with a light, airy feel.

You can purchase the blush through Narscosmetics.com, Ulta, or Sephora for just $30.

Top beauty influencers have some really good things to say about it too! YouTuber Heyjess talks about the color Freedom from the NARS Air Matte Blush line. She called the blush effortless, natural, and sheer while she raved about how much she loved it in her video. Rebecca shows a few swatches on her arm comparing the original NARS orgasm blush to the NARS Aire Matte orgasm blush in her YouTube video.

I personally love cream blushes. I have really dry skin sometimes and the creaminess helps to eliminate the late afternoon dull skill look. They go on really smooth and seamless and make you look really vibrant. AND you can throw them in your bag and do quick touch ups on the go.

I am very excited to try this new line and will post a video review soon.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. #Glamchat later!

Best Lipstick for Office Vibes #beautyreview

I have literally spent years trying to find the right lipstick colors that not only match my moods, style, trends, and complexion – but one that I can wear in the office. I know things are a lot more relaxed right now and many people are working remotely but I’ve always dreamed of having a lip color that works for that ultimate professional vibe or you know the makeup with no makeup look.

I have tried a number of lipsticks from Revlon, Kylie Cosmetics, Maybelline, Ulta, Sephora, Burt’s Bees, and local beauty shops. I tried mac lipstick, matte lipstick, and liquid lipstick – even pink lipstick, nude lipstick, and lip gloss, but I never really just found that one perfect everyday lipstick color for me. I must admit that I am a big fan of Carmax but I wanted something with that same soothing feeling with just a hint of color. This has been a process that has taken place over the years resulting in a collection of at least 25 lipsticks. BUT recently, I decided to give it another try and stumbled upon the perfect Chapstick that gives me just a hint of lip color without being too overly made up or glossy.

Along came Chap Stick total hydration. I ordered the Chap Stick from Amazon and I was really impressed so here’s my review!

Luna Magic Beauty for Mask Eye Makeup

For most makeup aficionados the thought of having to wear a mask constantly, despite major concerns caused by COVID-19, is quite unsettling. As silly as it seems I have personally felt secretly frustrated about putting on my makeup and then putting on my lipstick and then remembering that I just have to put a mask over it. Sometimes I wipe it off and other times I just leave it and let it smudge inside the mask. Without taking away from the dangers of not wearing a mask, I started thinking about ways to still enjoy doing my mask eye makeup and stumbled upon Luna Makeup.

The Luna makeup shark tank cosmetic line inspired me to think about ways to enjoy doing makeup again by focusing one area of my face that is not covered by a mask – My Eyes. According to Heavy.com, Luna Magic makeup was founded in Los Angeles by two sisters who shared a passion for multicultural cosmetics. The Frías sisters pitched their cosmetic line to investors Daymond John, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, and Barbara Corcoran on Shark Tank and the brand has been growing ever since.

The makeup line features eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, luna makeup brushes, eyelashes, fragrance oils, and scented candles with a unique flair. Their bestselling eyeshadow makeup palette offers an array of vibrant eyeshadow colors like Salud, Amor, Papi, Plata, and Diamante and the Luna Magic Exclusive eyelashes will most definitely give you an extra flair behind the mask. You can also find the Blend It Girl Eye Makeup Brushes Set on Boxy Charm, a subscription-based makeup and beauty box service (which I hear are really popular right now).

So, if you are looking for a way to reclaim your creativity and beauty with makeup and get over the hum drum of the daily mask a few extra pairs of lashes or colorful eyeshadows might help. Here are a few spicy makeup looks that I found that might inspire you to fight the good fight for glam.

Now is the time to try a bright new color like green, purple, or fuchsia for bold eyes behind the mask.

Think eyeshadow outside the box. Use neutral colors to highlight the area between the lid and brow line or spice up your glam by applying eyeshadow under the lower lashes.

Do Waist Trainers Work?

Photo by Bill Oxford via Unsplash

Learning about waist trainers, cinchers, and body shapers can be quite confusing. You may ask yourself things like what size do I purchase, what fabric is best, what is the best waist trainer, and does price really mean quality. My first trainer was a size 38 from Anne Chery. The current waist trainer is a size XS. Over the past 5 years, I have tried several waist trainers with excellent results and can offer a few tips of the trade.

My first waist trainer was a latex trainer. I then went on to try a workout waist trainer with the Velcro covering, but found that it was bit too bulky for me to wear under workout clothes. Next, I tried the short torso waist trainer and really liked that one. Most recently I discovered the waist trainers of all waist trainers – the latex trainer with steel bones, but I really think you need two.

Many people ask “Do waist trainers work”? After purchasing a steel bone waist trainer, I experienced a real difference in body shaping and back support. I spent more because I had a few waist trainers that poked and prodded me enough to convince me that spending a little extra was well worth it.  Now, I use a high-quality waist trainer for walks, bike riding, or even house cleaning. I suggest a seamless one for wearing under clothes and one for workouts.

The Real Rundown on Waist Trainers

#1 Steel Boned Trainers are the Truth – The more you wear them, the more they shape your body. They help to control posture and back pain. You can simply wear them for walks or daily tasks like gardening to achieve results. They are even great for working at a desk throughout the day. Try a little at first and then extend use as you feel comfortable.

#2 You Get What You Pay For – The more they cost the better they work. Avoid unnecessary poking and comfortability by investing in a high-quality waist trainer. Waist trainers are not created equally. Also, they do stretch over time so you may need a new one occasionally.

#3 A Waist Trainer Will Make You Eat Right – The good news is that you cannot overeat with a waist trainer on. In addition to creating the perfect hourglass figure, they help to curb your appetite and make you eat a little more slowly.

Make It Lash – Magnetic Eyelashes Review

I have been a fan of Lilly Lashes for a very long time. I highly recommend their line of lashes for everyday glam or over the top fabulousness. I have worn these lashes for over two years and will continue to stay abreast of their new products. However, I was recently tempted to try something new. I had been eyeing this new kind of lash for the longest time and felt really captivated by something that seemed really simple and fast. I initially saw them on makeup tutorial on Dominique Sachse’s YouTube channel and just recently decided to purchase them on Amazon.

Photo by Stephany Lorena on Unsplash

Lashes! For Me?

I was really excited about getting them in the mail and thought they might compliment my regular girl’s night in on Fridays (which of course now is a daily event because of the Coronavirus – Covid-19). They arrived to the lock box in just a few days. I immediately stopped everything to try them out. Here’s what I found.

#1 Options Galore

There are two kinds. Magnetic lashes with magnetic eyeliner vs. A pair of top and bottom magnetic lashes that snap onto each other.

#2 Accentuate the Eye
The accents are really nice if you already have some lashes.

#3 Not That Easy
They are easy but it still takes some practice. I ended up going to the local store to get the snap together kind because I wasn’t used to the magnetic eyeliner thing but I will try both kinds of eyelashes a bit more as I get used to it.

Photo by Matheus Ferrero on Unsplash

At First Glance
Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool new beauty product. I was excited about getting them and trying them out. However, I do still feel that there is a learning curve. They do seem to help preserve the lashes that you have but if you use a good glue and take the glued lashes off the right way this shouldn’t be an issue.

Generally, I enjoy trying different makeup routines based on how I feel that day. I may use liquid foundation one day and powder the other or use a different primer, eyeshadow, or eyeliner pencil. In the eye lashes category, I can see myself using both the magnetic and glue on lashes in the future. I did really, really like the Ardell professional magnetic accents.

When I tried these eye lashes, I thought they looked really natural on me. I have very short and thin lashes and I’m always looking for a way to accent my small eyes (and balance my eyes to my nose) so I’m down to try out a few different kinds. I even saw that they have one that uses some sort of magnetic liner powder. It’s always great to see innovative, new beauty products and I look forward to doing more beauty reviews to let you all know what’s poppin!

CHI Ceramic Curling Iron Review

Photo by Element5 Digital via Unsplash

When I wanted to experience a true “California Press” on my curly kinky natural hair with real bounce and shine – there was CHI. When I wanted the classic layered look like Claire Huxtable – there was CHI. Whether I wanted a bone straight long weave or a slightly curled natural body wave look, I could always count on my ceramic curlers to get the job done. After trying many, many hair curlers and irons and exploring ceramic curling iron benefits, I realized that there is good reason for investing $100 in a CHI G2 Ceramic and Titanium 1 1/4″ Hairstyling Iron. It makes a major difference and after one try, I was immediately addicted. You have to CHI it to believe it!

From my initial discovery about 7 years ago to today, CHI has introduced many new products, but I will never forget that day that I fell in love with this curling iron did to my hair. It was amazing and well worth an exceptional ceramic curling iron review! I highly recommend this product for anyone looking to take their hair experience to the next level.

Surviving the Coronavirus Quarantine

After watching movies, monitoring the news, and making countless phone calls to people all across the country, I’ve decided that I have got to find a way to carry on. As my own unique way to fight this Covid-19 pandemic, I’ve created this nifty list of good things to get done.

Check Off To-Do List Items

Photo by Miesha Moriniere on Pexels.com

There is always a list of things to do – even outside of moments of chaos and crisis. Usually, this list is comprised of daily activities with a few other long-term things that need to be taken care of. This is the perfect time to revisit things that have been lingering on the list for the past few weeks. For me, this means doing things like managing files, organizing, drawers, and completing essential paperwork.  I’ve also rearranged my living room, found a heatless home waxing kit, returned an old cable box, and found a makeup application process for daily wear. There is plenty to do to keep your mind at ease during these trying times. You can use this time to complete small projects that you usually procrastinate on.

Spring Cleaning

In addition to completely changing my living room, I’ve also managed to grab some cleaning supplies and get down to the nitty gritty. My floors had been looking really sticky before all of this and I was glad to be able to do a deep clean. After washing my mop cloth in the washing machine and using a new cleaner, I can no longer see my footprints on the kitchen floor. I was also able to clean out excess papers and trinkets in the kitchen drawers.  Next on the list is cleaning the bathroom floor and giving the refrigerator a quick wipe down.

Stay Active

It feels completely weird to be trapped in the house. I’ve been tempted to just lay around and mope in pity, but I was inspired to pull out my bike and get a workout in after watching a few YouTube videos. It is so important for the mind and body to stay active. It took me a few moments to overcome my state of shock. I was able to find a way to recreate normalcy by establishing new routines and forming good in-home habits.

I’m Here for Support

This pandemic is really tough on everyone. I am saddened at these events and have tried so hard to stay uplifted. After touching bases with everyone, I’ve found that handling old tasks, cleaning up, and getting in a little exercise are excellent ways to survive this horrid virus.

Here is my video with more details on Coronavirus survival tips.

My Secret to No Crease Foundation

Hopefully you enjoyed my last post on the #UltaCollection. I created a weekly schedule for blog posts but forgot to post it last week so hopefully I can stay on schedule. I have something that I would really like to talk candidly about. I have had such a challenge with finding the right primer that lasts all day long, prevents creasing in my smile lines, and keeps me looking nice and fresh.

photo of woman wearing knitted scarf

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

I’ll be honest and tell you that it is something that I ignored for the looongeeest time but when I got into it I immediately noticed a difference in the way my foundation lays and stays. I tried several different kinds and had to figure out what worked well for my skin and make up. Finally, after countless trials and errors I can tell what to do to keep an all day glow and keep you skin feeling refreshed, moisturized, and smooth.

The answer is primer.

I’ve found a few that work well at several different price points. I really like the Cover Girl Simply Ageless. It gave me a nice moisturizing layer to prepare for my foundation. I also tried the Dermablend Insta-Grip Jelly. It has an easy to use pump and I just love the feel and hydration of the jelly primers. I also tried the NYX Bare With Me Jelly formula and was pleasantly surprised. I preferred the pump but found a way to put this cooling jelly primer on my face with ease. But here’s the key! I use the Ulta Hydrating Primer with Coconut Water underneath as an extra layer of moisture.

Ulta Beauty Hydrating Face Primer

I know it may seem like a bit much to use two primers but the one is a bit more oily and tends to prevent the mid day dryness. It’s like the moisture activates at the right time and as I refresh my makeup I’m simply blotting away the moisture. I do not see creasing or any dullness. Sometimes I use the Mario Badescu Spritz Mist or Mac Prep and Prime Fix Plus Setting Spray for a little facial refresh. This has been my optimal path for all day makeup success. This is so important to me because I like a matte look but I don’t want to look too dry.

Here are the top primers I recommend (click to buy):
