Spice Up Your Workout with the Megaformer

This summer has been filled with lots of new and exciting health, wellness, and beauty related adventures. I’ve tried new makeup, added a few more weights to my fitness routine, and tried out a few new fitness classes to spice up my life. Over the past year I’ve worked out at a gym and taken a few dance and weight training classes to stay motivated. I started to feel a little stagnant and wanted to give myself a little boost in enthusiasm.

Then along came the Class Pass. This site has to be the most incredible thing a fitness person could ask for. You subscribe to a monthly package with points that allows you to try out different gyms and fitness classes. You can try as many new trendy classes as you want. There are tons of options. You can never get bored! From hot yoga and spinning to boot camp and boxing, you have a plethora of health and wellness fixings within a mileage radius at the touch of a button. You can learn more about that here.

The first-class thing that I tried was the Lagree Fitness Method. Quinlan of POPSUGAR says, “Lagree Fitness studios have infiltrated New York and Los Angeles and are now making their way to the rest of the country.” The Megaformer was created by Sebastien Lagree.  It is a machine that allows you to tone your muscles and strengthen your body.  I did myself the honor of not googling or researching anything and just jumping right in. I had no idea what to expect and I was alright with that.

I went to an hour-long class at PACE in Atlanta and was pleasantly surprised.  The Megaformer reminded of the table from the chiropractor’s office and quite honestly, I felt realigned after I left. During the class, the instructor guides you through various slow movements that sculpt you from head to toe. It is not easy, but it does let you work muscle groups that may be harder to get to with other methods.

This is definitely something that I’d like to add to my regiment. I was so excited to find a workout that helped me to build up my core! I’m not the most flexible person in the world but felt a bit nimbler. I’ve even heard that megastars like Meghan Markle are really into this workout.

Next, I’ll be trying Zumba and Barry’s Boot Camp.

Hot New Health and Wellness Apps

One of many great new fitness trends are options for the tech-inspired athletic crowd. While exploring the latest and greatest in health and wellness, I discovered ways to improve health with just the click of a button. You may be familiar with various fitness trackers and gadgets, but have you tried any of the new apps?

Health and wellness apps are gaining popularity because they allow you to create customized workouts, chart progress, and make good choices.  Some apps even allow you to meet and connect with others with similar interests and goals. According to Hiconsumption, FitBit Coach and Nike Training Club are just two of many excellent fitness apps out there.

The Nike Training Club offers 150+ free workouts, notable fitness trainers, and advice on nutrition and wellness.  You can select different workout plans based on the part of your body that you would like to strengthen. You can also sync your fitness tracker to monitor your heart rate. The FitBit Coach app also lets you keep track of your fitness activities. You can create a soundtrack to help you stay motivated during your workout or watch videos.

Other top apps include 7 Minute Workout, Blogilates, Charity Miles, and Jefit. Many of them are free or may require a small fee for specialized features. You can find routines and calendars, record your activities, and even count the number of calories that you consume every day.

When I first got started, I used the FitBit watch and app a lot. I could set it up to send me activity reminders and even check in with other health buffs. I really liked that it helped me to keep track of the calories that I burned during my workouts. I could set my weekly goal of say – work out four times as week – and earn badges and rewards when I reached my goals. I think this really kept me motivated because I was able to quantify the action, the food, and the number of calories burned. It helped to make the whole fitness thing more logical.

I encourage anyone who is into health and fitness to search your app store and find out what’s new. From running and HIIT training to yoga and plyometrics circuit training, there is something for everyone.

Healthy Hair Hacks

Do you find it challenging to find the right products for your hair? Whether you are always on the go, a career woman, or busy with the kids there are many ways to keep your hair in excellent condition. The truth is when you look good you feel good. Take some time out to give those strands some attention and wave those bad hair days goodbye.

Start a Routine

My first tip is to start a routine. Plan a weekly wash party on Saturdays. Do your regular roller round up every evening at the same time. Make an appointment for a monthly hot oil treatment or deep conditioning. You can help your hair remain healthy by showing it some love and affection on a consistent basis.

Hire a Stylist

Another thing that you can do to maintain your hair is to find a great hair stylist. Going to the salon gives you a feeling of renewal. It can be great to chat with your hairdresser, catch up on current events, and have some fun. Over time your beautician will get to know your hair and give you advice like when you need change your routine or try something new.

Find the Right Products

Believe it or not the products do make a difference. It can be hard to find just the right shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, and hair sprays. You can always ask around and find out what other people are using. You can also read reviews online and see what other women recommend. There are thousands of reviews on websites and social media. Find out what works best for your hair and stick with it.

Invest in a Good Blow Dryer

I recently purchased a new blow dryer that is amazing. It came with four attachments and several temperature and speed settings. My blow-drying time was quickly reduced, and I noticed a major difference in my hair. I highly suggest getting a good blow dryer even if it costs a little more.

No matter what your lifestyle is, it is always important to take some time out for self-care. Most of us put hair at the bottom of the list when it comes to upkeep. But if you love your hair – you will love your hair.

National Grammar Day

It is interesting to discover commemorative calendar days, but this one really inspired me. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. In lieu of National Grammar Day, here are my thoughts on wordsmithing.

I can honestly say that writing is not easy. The words in your head don’t necessarily translate well on paper. It takes time and effort to really communicate clearly. Although it may seem effortless, it take a lot of mental energy and you are required to follow grammatical rules.

There are even different kinds of writing like academic writing, journal writing, fiction, non-fiction, creative writing, and business writing with separate rules. I’ve learned and enjoyed various types of prose but find myself making a few common writing mistakes.

Missing Hyphen

The first error that I’m often reprimanded for is not using a hyphen. This just doesn’t seem that important, but according to grammatical rules words like good-hearted and post-apocalyptic are not correct without the hyphen.

Quote This

Another common mistake is the inproper use of the comma. Does it go after or before the quotation mark? I’m wondering, “Does it go like this?” Comma rules vary based on the sentence and structure.

Wrong Word

This one always gets me! Is it complement or compliment? Is read and read the same in present and past tense?

Writing can get very fanciful, but it never stops me from falling in love with words in general. There is nothing more interesting than (then?!) when someone pops in a random word like hirsute or compendius.

Valentines Day 2/14

Valentine’s Day is all about romance. It’s the day when couples around the world shower each other with candy, balloons, giftS, and love. Whether you are planning for a first date or a 15 year anniversary celebration one important thing to think about is that magical moment.

I’m talking about the big pucker up…the sucky face ….you know the KISS!

There is no better way to get ready for the smootch of all smoothes than to find the right lipstick. I don’t have any plans this Valentine’s Day, but I can suggest a couple of lipsticks that I would wear if I was planning for a special dinner date.

My favorite lipstick color is Covergirl Katy Kat Colorlicious Pink Paws. This color gives me just the right amount of sass and looks really flirty without going over the top.

My most recent lipstick purchase was Mamastarrr by Patrick Starr. This is a top pick too. I was surprised to find that this color is great neutral color that is good for date night or even a lunch date.

So cheers to all of you couples out there. I hope you have a great Valentine’s Day!

One quick question for you – do you take off your lipstick before dinner and then put it back on immediately after you finish eating? Do you use a compact and put it on at the table or step away? Or do you eat with the lipstick on?

National Pizza Day 2/9

Today has to be recognized as the equivalent to Christmas for pizza lovers. Pizza and I have history. On today I commemorate the many moments we’ve shared, slices, cheese, garlic and all. I’m reminded of Friday afternoons with my son, either going to my favorite local pizza restaurant or making homemade pizza.

My weekly treat used to involve a microwave pizza with custom toppings like mushrooms, onions, and peppers. I fell in love with Digiorno’s, California pizza kitchen, and Papa Johns. Now, I’m really interested in trying out this new cauliflower pizza crust that I saw on Live with Kelly and Ryan. I found this amazing recipe on Allrecipes.com. Has anyone tried this yet?
