Health and wellness apps are gaining popularity because they allow you to create customized workouts, chart progress, and make good choices.  Some apps even allow you to meet and connect with others with similar interests and goals. According to Hiconsumption, FitBit Coach and Nike Training Club are just two of many excellent fitness apps out there.

The Nike Training Club offers 150+ free workouts, notable fitness trainers, and advice on nutrition and wellness.  You can select different workout plans based on the part of your body that you would like to strengthen. You can also sync your fitness tracker to monitor your heart rate. The FitBit Coach app also lets you keep track of your fitness activities. You can create a soundtrack to help you stay motivated during your workout or watch videos.

Other top apps include 7 Minute Workout, Blogilates, Charity Miles, and Jefit. Many of them are free or may require a small fee for specialized features. You can find routines and calendars, record your activities, and even count the number of calories that you consume every day.

When I first got started, I used the FitBit watch and app a lot. I could set it up to send me activity reminders and even check in with other health buffs. I really liked that it helped me to keep track of the calories that I burned during my workouts. I could set my weekly goal of say – work out four times as week – and earn badges and rewards when I reached my goals. I think this really kept me motivated because I was able to quantify the action, the food, and the number of calories burned. It helped to make the whole fitness thing more logical.

I encourage anyone who is into health and fitness to search your app store and find out what’s new. From running and HIIT training to yoga and plyometrics circuit training, there is something for everyone.

Keto Diet for Beginners

Just when I thought that I had heard about every diet, fitness plan, and health trend out there here comes something new. I have been totally into the recent health trends like fitness technology, group exercise, intervals, and cycling. But this popular health and wellness craze is one that I am still learning about.

I’m pretty certain that you have already heard of it and that I am the one who is behind. It is called the Keto Diet and I have no idea what it is. A few weeks ago, a friend of mind said, “Oh no, I can’t eat that I’m on that Keto Diet, ” and my mind began to churn.  I also heard Halle Berry mention it on an early morning talks show a few months ago.

According to Korin Miller of Women’s Health, keto stands for ketogenic and the diet is about reducing your intake of carbohydrates and increasing fats. Over time you end up going into ketosis. During this period your body begins to burn stored fat. You are allowed to eat a certain amount of carbs daily, but the rest of the meal plan is kinda lenient.

Everydayhealth.com offers a full food listing and recommended menus. This includes fatty foods like beef, fish, chicken, butter, asparagus, almonds, and blue cheese. You can even keep eating a little bacon and yogurt, but you must avoid foods like maple syrup, agave, and soda. You should also take a few vitamins and supplements.

Many people have lost 100 pounds or more on this diet. Men’s Health gives several accounts of weight loss successes linked to the keto diet. One example is David Myers who noticed improvements in his health after being on the keto diet for one year. Tyler Segraves is another keto diet success story. He began the keto diet and lost over 141 pounds.

There are even lots of Keto products out there like Keto Pure, Perfect Keto Instant Keto Coffee, and the Ketogenic Starter Kit. I must say that as a health and fitness advocate I would d like to learn more about what it entails. I wonder what kind of energy levels people have on the diet or if it helps to reduce body fat?

What’s your opinion on this health and wellness trend?

Start a Routine

My first tip is to start a routine. Plan a weekly wash party on Saturdays. Do your regular roller round up every evening at the same time. Make an appointment for a monthly hot oil treatment or deep conditioning. You can help your hair remain healthy by showing it some love and affection on a consistent basis.

Hire a Stylist

Another thing that you can do to maintain your hair is to find a great hair stylist. Going to the salon gives you a feeling of renewal. It can be great to chat with your hairdresser, catch up on current events, and have some fun. Over time your beautician will get to know your hair and give you advice like when you need change your routine or try something new.

Find the Right Products

Believe it or not the products do make a difference. It can be hard to find just the right shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, and hair sprays. You can always ask around and find out what other people are using. You can also read reviews online and see what other women recommend. There are thousands of reviews on websites and social media. Find out what works best for your hair and stick with it.

Invest in a Good Blow Dryer

I recently purchased a new blow dryer that is amazing. It came with four attachments and several temperature and speed settings. My blow-drying time was quickly reduced, and I noticed a major difference in my hair. I highly suggest getting a good blow dryer even if it costs a little more.

No matter what your lifestyle is, it is always important to take some time out for self-care. Most of us put hair at the bottom of the list when it comes to upkeep. But if you love your hair – you will love your hair.

National Grammar Day

It is interesting to discover commemorative calendar days, but this one really inspired me. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. In lieu of National Grammar Day, here are my thoughts on wordsmithing.

I can honestly say that writing is not easy. The words in your head don’t necessarily translate well on paper. It takes time and effort to really communicate clearly. Although it may seem effortless, it take a lot of mental energy and you are required to follow grammatical rules.

There are even different kinds of writing like academic writing, journal writing, fiction, non-fiction, creative writing, and business writing with separate rules. I’ve learned and enjoyed various types of prose but find myself making a few common writing mistakes.

Missing Hyphen

The first error that I’m often reprimanded for is not using a hyphen. This just doesn’t seem that important, but according to grammatical rules words like good-hearted and post-apocalyptic are not correct without the hyphen.

Quote This

Another common mistake is the inproper use of the comma. Does it go after or before the quotation mark? I’m wondering, “Does it go like this?” Comma rules vary based on the sentence and structure.

Wrong Word

This one always gets me! Is it complement or compliment? Is read and read the same in present and past tense?

Writing can get very fanciful, but it never stops me from falling in love with words in general. There is nothing more interesting than (then?!) when someone pops in a random word like hirsute or compendius.
